Prom is a dance that your teen sims get to go along to.

• The message randomly appears, I’ve the message appear at the start of the teen cycle and at the end. On the sims 3 forums, some users have reported going to prom a few times! Others have said that they didn’t get it at all. If you want to increase your chances increase the teen life span within the menu options or simply disable aging all together until it appears.
•  The message appears and it will inform you of a time and date. If you’re too excited and didn’t notice (like me!) or If you’ve forgotten, don’t worry. You will receive a 2 hour warning on the day prior which is enough time to cancel any current actions and prepare your sims for the dance!
• The Prom starts at 6PM, so your warning is 4PM.
• A Limo will appear to pick up the sim teens, all teens in the playable family are eligible to go, it doesn’t matter if they’ve spent most of their life in boarding school or if they’ve attended the elementary school. I’m currently unsure as to whether or not a sim will be pulled out of boarding school in order to attend the prom, I’ll update with an annotation if / when I find out more information.
• If the limo doesn’t appear and it’s past 6PM, you can click on the school and select “Go to Prom”
• While at the prom itself, it’s a rabbit hole. You can’t control anything of what happens which sucks and is also kind of cool. You do get frequent updates as to what is happening inside and some are quite funny. I had 3 sims go to the same prom and had a variety of experiences.
• Penelope Jade went with her boyfriend Mortimer Goth, they had an amazing night and she ended up being awarded Prom Queen and was given a crown in her inventory to display later.
• Patterns Pip was PJ’s imaginary friend, she went without a date and had an interesting night. She fell in love with Sam Sekemoto however she was denied for a dance and fell over when she did dance on her own.
• Malcolm, came back from boarding school and went along to the prom. He got in a fight, fell in love and ended up being crowned Prom King.
• When you leave the prom, you are given the crown to display if your sim was Prom King or Queen, they were also given a funny plaque (EG: PJ got “Most likely to dominate the world”) and they are also given a prom picture which includes them and their date if there is one.

My thoughts

Overall it was quite entertaining to read the different events that happened, it was a little disappointing to not be able to control my sim. At the same time it’s also a pleasant surprise to see what happens while at the dance as it can often take your sim in a direction you weren’t going to!
