This can be done by clicking on the little white bar in the lower right hand side of the screen. This may or may not have Pokemon pictures and or shapes in it. If it doesn’t have any thing in it and all you see is a white bar, unfortunately you don’t have any Pokemon near by. However, if you do, click on the bar to expand it.

This will open a new screen. In this screen you’ll see up to nine Pokemon. They may be in full colour, meaning you’ve found this type already or a silhouette, meaning that this particular Pokemon type is unknown to you as you’ve yet to catch one.

You’ll notice that there are little paw prints under most of the Pokemon in the example on the page and one without. This means that the Pokemon within the #1 position, is within 10 meters (32 ft) in any particular direction of the Pokemon Trainer. Each foot is approximately 50 meters (165 feet). The Pokemon in position number 1 is always the closest. As you’re walking around these update and shuffle around in order to help you locate your desired Pokemon.

You can select your desired Pokemon and have the app track that one in particular. This will change the white bar from being three Pokemon to your chosen Pokemon and the feet icon.

The list of nearby Pokemon is sorted in order of closest (top left) to furthest away (lower right). These will update as you move. The amount of paw prints gives a rough indication of how close you are. Each footprint is approx 50m / 165 ft.

  • Decide which Pokemon you want, note the number of paw prints
  • Start walking.
  • You may need to adjust your initial direction a few times to get your bearings, and then use this method to narrow down on your Pokemon.
  • If the number of paw prints goes up or the position lowers, take note of your position.
    • Lets call this direction “A”. Go back to where you came from.
  • Keep walking, if the number of paw prints starts rising or its location drops
    • Take note of this location “B”.
  • Go half way between “A” and “B”, then turn 90′ and walk.
  • If your target Pokemon raises feet or lowers position, turn around and you should be facing the direction of your Pokemon
    • Take note of the location and call it “C”.
