In order to find a trap, you need to be at a settlement you own and go into build mode.
Once in build mode, scroll to the far right. If you don’t see the new menu there, you may have a mod that is clashing.
Inside the new menu you’ll see small, medium and large cages. Each cage requires electricity to run. Placing the trap near an electricity source and connecting it up with a switch will allow you to turn the power off, which opens the door and lets whatever is inside, out.
